Marvin Gaye - What's Going On (33 rpm, 180 g)

Marvin Gaye was a controversial but hugely successful personality. In its early years, the son of a priest tries to play a variety Chart Typical songs to match the tradition of the Motown label. But over time, he found himself less and less in the triangle of tax investigations, demanding wives and the music meant nothing to him cope.

The self-produced album "What's Going On" in 1971 changed everything. With profound R & B sounds and a soul sound he created, according to Rolling Stone magazine the best album of the year 1971. The songs are deep, unusually open to the USA of the 70s, and even doing absolutely danceable. The title "What's happening here!" with the important exclamation mark instead of the question mark shows the world the United States in the eyes of a returning Vietnam Veterans, who wonders why he has fought for a world of police violence, drug abuse and increasing divorce rates. The Motown label initially refused to publish this album, because it would not commercial enough. It was used more hits like "Heard it through the Grapevine" and did not want to disturb the customers.

The MFSL Re-Issue 180g LP sounds open, concise and absolutely groovy. The MFSL version is published in the hinged cover with consecutive serial number and was re-edited by Rob Loverde in Half-speed method from the original master tapes.
